Tule River Quality Education 

Overview

Located on the Tule River Reservation, Towanits School has grown one-grade level each year and became a full K-5 elementary school starting the 2017/18 academic year. Towanits School operates a traditional school year (Mid-August and the end of the first week in June) operating M-F from 8:00 am – 2:30 pm for kindergarten and from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm for grades 1-5.Towanits School’s winter, spring, and summer recesses are aligned with those of Porterville Schools to ensure families/students have common days off.

Towanits K-5 School was reviewed by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accrediting Commission in the fall of 2016/17 and received its Initial 3-year accreditation from WASC in February 2017.

Mission 

To prepare every Tule River Tribal Member and 1st Descendant child with the academic and cultural knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to pursue a college degree, enter in a professional career of their choice and become a self-sufficient, contributing Member of the Tule River Tribe.

Founded

Towanits School was founded by a motion of the Tule River Tribal Council in June 2015 an educational option for the parents of Tule River Tribal Member and 1st Descendant children. The new school started August 17, 2015, as a private elementary school serving students in grades K-3.
