Department of Public Safety

The mission of the Tule River Department of Public Safety is to provide sufficient law enforcement services to the Tule River Tribe, and its membership; and for the protection of life, property and protection of Tribal Assets.

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide Public Safety & Service to the Tribal Community and all those who visit the Tule River Indian Reservation.

We are dedicated to serving and protecting the people of the Tule River Indian Reservation, in partnership with other departments to enhance the quality of life within the community.

Anonymous Crime Reporting

If you’ve been the victim of a crime or think you have witnessed one, you should report it to the DPS straight away. Your information could be used to prevent other crimes and help keep other people safe.

The Department of Public Safety can only continue to grow with the assistance of the community and Tribal Council. Please feel free to contact the Department of Public Safety with any suggestions, comments or concerns. All feedback is greatly appreciated and will be taken into careful consideration.

The TRTPD Community Service Officer (CSO) division totals five Officers that assist and respond to calls with TRTPD Sworn Police Officers. They rotate monthly shifts at the TRTPD high country access post that greatly assist in monitoring traffic/personnel entering the mountainous area. The CSO division also assists Eagle Mountain Casino (EMC) events as well as community events as needed. Most have their PC 832 (laws of arrest) training as well as specialized training through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (F.L.E.T.C.) pertaining to courtroom duties.

The TRTPD Police Officer/High Country Ranger division totals five officers; all have Special Law Enforcement Commission (SLEC) through the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) recognizing them as federal police officers. We recently have implemented a community oriented style of policing that allows officers to work with community and remain proactive in patrolling and establishing solid relationships with departments that deal directly with the youth. We work collaboratively with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) as well as other municipal/state agencies/federal agencies i.e. (Probation/Parole, California Fish and Game, US Forestry). During the summer months we have established and maintained a great relationship with the United States Army National Guard (USANG) who supports the TRTPD with air surveillance and foot patrols of reported marijuana cultivation, along with other state task force groups that support eradication/reclamation of the Tule River Indian Reservation.
